Roberto Ramos is a dynamic Venezuelan conductor whose passion for music has driven an extraordinary journey. He began his musical path at a very young age in his school’s choir in the USA. Years later, his family moved back to Venezuela, where he became involved with Venezuela's esteemed National System of Children and Youth Choirs and Orchestras, famously known as “El Sistema.” Here, he not only played the trumpet and conducted but also undertook administrative responsibilities, demonstrating his multifaceted talent. Notably, he directed the Núcleo “La Rinconada” and served as the State Coordinator of the South Axis of Caracas.
Parallel to his activities at El Sistema, Roberto studied at the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE, Venezuela) with maestros Rodolfo Saglimbeni, Alfredo Rugeles, and Carlos Sala Ballester. In Brazil, he earned his Master's degree at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN, Brazil) with maestro André Muniz. At the same institution, he also completed a specialization in Music Teaching in Multiple Contexts. His thirst for knowledge led him to the Music Academy of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP, Brazil), where he refined his craft under renowned mentors such as Alexander Liebreich, Neil Thomson, Marin Alsop, Wagner Polistuk, Claudio Cruz, and Thierry Fischer, among others.
In Venezuela, Roberto has conducted the Regional Youth Symphony Orchestra of the State of Trujillo, the Amazonas Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Mérida Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Luis Gilberto Mendoza Youth Symphony Orchestra, the La Rinconada Children's Symphony Orchestra, the Inocente Carreño Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Los Altos Mirandinos Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Teques Symphony Orchestra, the Francisco de Miranda Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Simón Bolívar State Symphony Orchestra of Táchira, among other orchestras.
Since 2018, Roberto has conducted the Rio Grande do Norte Philharmonic Orchestra, the University of São Paulo (USP) Symphony Orchestra, the Federal University of Paraíba Symphony Orchestra, and the Goiânia Symphony Orchestra. He was also the Assistant Conductor of the UFRN Philharmonic, with whom he traveled on a memorable tour of Italy in 2018, including a captivating performance for Pope Francis at the Vatican City.
A highlight of Roberto's early career was leading the Children's Orchestra of Núcleo “La Rinconada” to victory at the prestigious 1st Festival of Children's Orchestras of "El Sistema" in 2011. In 2022, his final paper for his bachelor 's degree, the Critical Edition of ‘Margariteña Glosa Sinfónica” by Venezuelan composer Inocente Carreño, was published by Particella Ediciones.
Invitations to conduct world premieres followed, including the Symphony Orchestra of the Federal University of Paraíba, where he premiered compositions such as the piano concerto "Árbol, Hoja, Salto, Luz" by Argentine composer Germán Gras in 2019, showcasing his collaboration with esteemed soloists like Brazilian pianist Joana Cunha de Holanda. Other notable participations occurred at the 1st Festival of Young Conductors of El Sistema (2012) and the 8th International Percussion Festival of Los Llanos (FIP LLANOS) (2013). These include the Piano Quintet by British composer Robert Laidlow in São Paulo, Brazil (2018), part of the 49th edition of the Winter Music Festival Campos do Jordão, and the contemporary piece "Y vos por salvarte, también gritaste..." by Germán Gras at the ENCOMUN Festival in 2019.
Guided by esteemed maestros and enriched by diverse masterclasses, Roberto's journey as a conductor continues to evolve. Currently, he serves as the Music Conductor and Pedagogical Coordinator of Alegro's Children Orchestra, nurturing the next generation of musical talent with his passion and expertise.
